Island Yoga Retreat
On an unseasonably warm day in early September, I took a ferry from South Freeport to Bustins Island to photograph an island yoga retreat for Yoga Next Door. When Jessie from Yoga Next Door reached out to chat about photographing a yoga retreat, my first thought was skepticism—what’s the story here? What makes this memorable? I wasn’t sure it was the right project for me. But as soon as Jessie began filling in the details, I was hooked: the retreat was on a small island in Casco Bay, guests would stay and eat in a beautiful cottage passed down through multiple generations in Jessie’s family, and the yoga sessions would be on an old steamer dock lined with lobster traps. Oh, okay. There is a story here.
